Have you ever received an email that is telling you your credit card has been locked or to verify your account activity?
These are scam and phishing emails meant to trick you into giving up your login information to the cyber criminals.
The scammers are relying on the urgency of the email to trick you in to giving up your credentials. The fact that your card has been disabled or the unusual account activity in your checking account are red flags!
What you need to look for:
- The email came from a non-account email address. One that is not an official domain.
- The urgency-based language of the email telling you your account is suspended
- The links in the email bring you to a strange site.
What to do if that email does not look right for some reason:
- DO NOT click on any links
- Verify the sender
- Go to the company website directly, not using a link in the email
- Delete the email immediately
- Report the email to the company that it “came from”
We cannot express to you enough that you need to take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones from these types of scams. Always, always, always… did I mention always? Go to the company directly. If you do a search in Google, scroll past the sponsored results and find the company you are looking for. That, or call them using the number on the back of the credit card. Always.
As always, please feel free to reach out to us if you have any thoughts on this.
Stay Safe Out There!
